People who feel discriminated against at work may face a substantially higher risk of developing

这项研究周三发表在《沙巴足球体育平台》杂志上 美国心脏协会杂志, defined workplace discrimination as working in unfair conditions or facing unpleasant treatment at work because of personal characteristics, 比如种族, 性别或年龄.

"Scientists have studied the associations among systemic racism, 歧视和健康后果,该研究的主要作者. 李健在沙巴足球体育平台发布会上说. Li is a professor of work and health in the Fielding School of Public Health and the School of Nursing at the University of California, 洛杉矶. “然而, few studies have looked specifically at the health impact of discrimination in the workplace, 在成年人, 平均, 花费超过三分之一的沙巴足球体育平台."

The researchers believe this is the first scientific evidence that workplace discrimination may increase the long-term risk of developing

The findings come amid growing concerns that systemic racism and discrimination of all kinds may affect cardiovascular health.

246 adults across a broad range of occupations and education levels.

参与者大多不吸烟, drank low to moderate amounts of alcohol and engaged in moderate to high levels of physical activity.

Participants were asked questions about their work experiences, 包括他们是否觉得自己受到了不公平对待, 他们是否比其他人被更密切地关注或忽视, whether job promotions were rewarded fairly and how often they were exposed to racial, 种族或性侮辱或笑话. All items were given equal weight, and scores were tallied using a 30-point scale. Participants were divided into three groups: those who perceived low levels of workplace discrimination (scores of up to seven points),

After about eight years of follow-up, 319 participants reported developing 高血压. Those who at the start of the study said they experienced intermediate levels of discrimination were 22% more likely to develop 高血压 than those who experienced low workplace discrimination. Those who said they experienced high levels of discrimination were 54% more likely to develop 高血压 than their peers who did not.

除了大多数参与者都是白人之外, those who were not white were less likely to take part in the study's follow-up session.

"First, we should increase public awareness that work is an important social determinant of health. 第二个, 除了传统的风险因素, stressful experiences at work due to discrimination are an emerging risk factor for 高血压."

The authors said stronger government and employer anti-discrimination policies are needed to better protect workers' health.
